Bear Creek Festival 2012
Coming up on the weekend of November 8-11 will be 2012’s Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival. Every year Bear Creek has been held at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, located near Live Oak, Florida. The Spirit of Suwannee is a wild, beautiful park with over 700 acres of camping, hiking, disc golf, canoeing, fishing, and more along the banks of the Suwannee River. Bear Creek Festival offers a fall/winter-time festival where the weather is still sunny and not freezing. The park offers wooded groves and fields with primitive camping, upgraded camping, RV camping, and cabins. The Spirit of Suwannee Park also has a country store and a craft village for small shopping and necessities.
This year’s Bear Creek festival is a whole five days of live music, stages, art, vending, camping and more. The line-up includes 2 nights of Umphrey’s Mcgee, 2 nights of Lettuce, 2 nights of Perpetual Groove, 2 performances by MarchFourth Marching Band, 2 performances of Dumpstaphunk, 2 performances of The Heavy Pets, 2 performances by Bright Lights Social Hour, as well as Moon Taxi, SOULIVE, Lotus, Budos Band, Charles Walker and the Dynamites, Zach Deputy, Beebs & Her Money Makers, Billy Iuso, Strange Arrangement, Zoogma and many more. The lineup sounds like a lot of awesome funk and dance music and definitely perfect for the Umphrey’s Mcgee and Lotus fans!
During Bear Creek the Zach Deputy charity Disc Golf Tournament will be held on the 18-hole Magnolia Disc Golf Course at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park on Saturday at 10AM at the 1st hole located behind the General Store. Entry fee to the tournament is $25, includes a commemorative Bear Creek disc and all profits from the tournament will go to The Spirit of the Suwannee Kids Music Camp. If you love disc golf, definitely come on out and join the tournament, its for a good cause.
Bear Creek will have several rows of vendors along the stages including amazing visual artists, music related vendors, local vendors, retail and more. This year Bear Creek will host their annual food drive to support the Suwannee Valley Food Bank- if you bring 5 or more cans or non-perishable food items to the festival office you will receive a commemorative 2012 festival poster. Bear Creek’s Greening program is in its the third year of Bear Creek and the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park making soil and recycling with trash left from the festival. The program recycles glass, mixed plastic, aluminum, and cardboard/paperboard via recycling and composting processes. To get more involved in helping preserve the area ecological environment Bear Creek will offer commemorative and re-usable plastic pint glasses for beer, the Suwannee Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) volunteer program will be working towards keeping the festival grounds clean, and the Green Team will have a tent to educate about composting and recycling.
Tickets to the festival include primitive camping. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and get in free for the weekend. There is a children’s area. Ticket prices for the weekend range from $130-$185. Day tickets are available at the gate at $80 per a day or $50 on Sunday. Bear Creek offers an easy payment option where the price of your ticket is spread out over several months’ payments. RV and VIP tickets offer a variety of different options and amenities. Bear Creek has a volunteer/ticket exchange program called STEP Volunteer Program in which festival-goers will donate a certain amount of volunteer time in exchange for a ticket.
