Marco Benevento will play at this year’s Aura Music Festival, which will be he
ld at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, February 14-16,
2014. The weekend will be packed with great live music and arts, but be sure to check out this unique musician and his band. Benevento has grown fans from the contemporary, experimental jazz scene in New York City from the late 90’s to present day. He has studied under and played with several well-known musicians, including John Medeski, J
oanne Brackeen, Kenny Werner and Brad Mehldau. In the past, Benevento also has collaborated with: Mike Gordon, Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, jazz-trumpeter Steven Bernstein, Billy Martin, Matt Chamberlain, John McEntire, George Porter, and an impressive list of others. Benevento currently plays in his own band (2006-present) and the Benevento Russo Duo (2002 to present) with drummer, Joe Russo. He was also a member of the Jazz Farmers from 1999 to 2001.
In addition to being an accomplished musician and an influencer of rock music, Benevento is the founder and recording engineer of Fred Short, a recording studio in Upstate New York. His albums and songs are best known for their combination of the acoustic piano with a unique style of circuit bending. Marco Benevento composes music both on and off stage with various modified electronic toys, including an acoustic piano, toy piano, Yamaha CP60, speak and spell, glockenspiel, Rhythm Ace Drum Machine, Wurlitzer electric piano and Rheem Organ. This method is called circuit bending: he uses different effects, toys, synthesizers, drum machines, amplifiers and sampling of beats to create songs. We look forward to seeing him create a set at this year’s Aura 2014!
